My Aunt Diane...

Hello Everyone, its Niece Marcy. Or Marcy Belle, as Aunt Diane calls me. I happily accepted the position of “Guest Blogger” but for the past several days have had the most insane amount of writers block. I mean, its downright debilitating! Anyway, without further adieu, here it goes…

It seems appropriate to discuss politics since it is the night of the much-anticipated Vice Presidential debate. Those who know me would agree that I am never short on political discussion and overall Republican bashing. But! I’m going to pass tonight and allow you to get to know me a little better before I go after Sarah Palin’s beehive.

Let me talk about my Aunt Diane. What a lovely, intelligent, compassionate, and butt-kicking woman. She is the quintessential diplomat who can see both sides clearly and hold her personal feelings close. She is also a powerhouse that knows what she wants and gets things done. She is an independent woman with that sparkle of southern charm. You see, Aunt Diane is sooooo cool that I regard her one of my very best friends. She and I can talk for hours and hours on the phone and not realize that our phone battery is running out of juice! She is fun, young, gorgeous, fit, classy, and of course sassy. (see photo attached). She teaches me how to be a woman and I am only so lucky to have such a wonderful female role model in my life.

I've got the perfect example of that loyalty that she exudes. One night she was in San Francisco on business, so my date and I picked her up for a night out on the town. Now where should everyone take his or her open-minded southern Aunt on her first night in San Francisco? A gay karaoke bar, or course! A bunch of my friends met us there and embraced Aunt Diane as their own. Which also meant that her cocktail (a Manhattan, if you’re really dying to know) was never dry. Uh oh!… After hours of singing & carryin’ on, it was sadly time to go – we were all turning into pumpkins. Some of you may know that Aunt Diane can’t see well, especially at night. So, I escorted her into a cab and my date and I jumped in on either side of her. About 5 minutes into the ride, my beloved and tipsy Aunt says…”Can I ask a question……” Then pointing at me she proceeds to say, “Why are YOU here with my nieces date?!?!?” I quickly grabbed her hand and said “Aunt Diane!, its me, Marcy, I am here with you!” She was so relieved, she thought that a friend of mine slipped in next to her and was trying to get the moves on my date! We laughed and laughed all the way to her hotel. I remember thanking her for her concern. I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to be on the receiving end of that question for sure!

The moral of this story is: Women, we need to look after each other, stick up for each other, ask the uncomfortable questions, be good girlfriends/women to each other. Ain’t no one else gonna have your back when your not there unless we adhere to this basic rule.

Amen Sisters….and see you again soon!
Marcy
